MORRIS CHAPEL/WOODARD'S CHAPEL CEMETERY

Below is taken from the book Starr Township cemeteries, Hocking County Ohio. It was put out by the Hocking County Historical Society.  This cemetery was read and recorded 11 May,1997 by Robert and Clara Mae Redd. It is located in the south east 1/4 of section 15,Starr Township, Hocking County, Ohio. It is 1/2 mile north of Sanner Road (county road #325). The only access to the cemetery is by walking 1/2 mile across a  field owned by Arnold B Polling, Jr. We called Mr. Poling and obtained permission to cross his property. Mr. Poling is in the process of cutting all the trees surrounding the cemetery and installing a fence, with a gate, to enclose the cemetery. Mr. Poling told us the cemetery was in bad shape but that was an understatement. When we entered the cemetery we could see that it would be hard to read and record. At least 25% of the stones were either down, broken or buried. There was no way we could read in rows, so we divided the the cemetery in halves, east and west, reading from south to north wherever we could find a stone. It seemed like all the large stones that were over were face down and with the size of the stones you would need a crane to move them. We are not satisfied with the below reading, but is the best we could do. This first half would be the right or east side.

Notes are added by Michael Fromholt. Michael personally  visited this cemetery on a number of occasions, and took pictures, including one that was mentioned as now being down. Michaeladded a note of this stone at the proper place. Michael also added notes concerning some of the people buried in this cemetery- rewritten and submitted to Ohgenweb by Michael Fromholt.
