Sniff family

I would like to know more about my grandmother's family. I think they lived in Logan , Ohio because I have a picture of their farm that says Logan, Hocking County on the back. Their name was "Sniff". My grandmother was Blanche and she married Walter E. Carlisle. She had sisters, Mary and Viola. Mary married John O. Jones and Viola married Orrin Phillips. That is all I know. I am Genie Ketterl

Town of Diamond, Starr Township

ASC Group is a private cultural resource management firm working with the Ohio Department of Transportation to identify important archaeological and historical sites in the proposed Nelsonville Bypass corridor. We have identified a number of ruined buildings near Diamond, Starr Township, that we believe are associated with the company town and the brick-making facility at Diamond. family cemetary on the hill between Jobs and Orbiston

hi I know of a family cemetary on the hill between Jobs and Orbiston. We used to call it the Conners Cemetary. When I was young(now 74) there was two stones that was readable biut there is only 1 now. With lots of sandstone where graves are supposed to be. I have another marker on the Morris Chapel cemetary, Henry Holdren is buried right next to his wife and when the people read the markers hers was knocked down and his name was on the side you couldnot see. I am a gr grand son of Henry and Lavina Holdren and I had the stone repared and replaced it on its base. Yours L Eldon Sowers

Monroe BENNET(T>

According to notes left by my mother, my 2nd great-grandfather, Monroe BENNET(T), was born May 9, 1830 in Starr Twp., Hocking Cty., in a little town about 8 miles from Washington Court House. His father's name was Jacob BENNET(T). The mother died when Monroe was about nine years old. Monroe had a twin brother, name unknown. Monroe married Nancy Ann INGMIRE, on January 30, 1851, and they had a daughter Rue Ann BENNET(T), born December 2, 1851. They moved to Kansas sometime later. If there is someone who can check the census for me to verify that the family lived in Ohio during these years, I would be most grateful. Lois

Nigger Cemetery, Hocking Co.

I am the Ohio Dept. Grave Registration Officer for the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. I received the Copies of the Hocking Co.Civil war Veterans Registration Cards from Kay Wilson and while entering them into our database I ran across a veteran, Betts, James Private 27 U.S.C.T., Co. I, who it says is buried in the Nigger Cemetery, Ward Twp., Hocking Co., OH.. Is there such a Cemetery named "Nigger" or has it been changed to something else? It seems funny since he was in a Colored Regiment. I don't see it listed in your listing on the Hocking web page. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. Very Respectfully Wayne Lowery
